Art of Owl Song aka Andie Wolf

on October 11, 2012 - 5:57pm

Tonight is Creature Feature, the opening solo show of Toronto artist Andie Wolf. With subjects ranging from monsters to mammals, Owl Song (as she's known online) explores nature and the unnatural in equal parts. Always fun, and often beautiful, her work is a refreshing take on imagery we thought we knew.

Join Andie Wolf at Playful Grounds (in Little Italy) tonight at 8 pm for the opening. If you can't make it tonight, the show will run into November, and a second installment will continue until year end. Playful Grounds, 605 College St. (between Bathurst & Ossington) Toronto, Ontario 416-645-0484

Bazaar of the Bizarre & Peasant Pumpkin

on October 2, 2012 - 10:00am

Splitting time between decorating for Halloween and trying to get ready for my next show this month. I recently finished the Peasant Pumpkin but still have 6 more figures I'm hoping to have completed in time.

If you're in Toronto on October 21st, come to the Bazaar of the Bizarre a marketplace for all things exotic, whimsical and macabre! Local artists - indie, goth, lowbrow and the Halloween inspired - will gather for the annual event (and belly dancers!).

When: Sunday October 21st 2012

Where: Pia Bowman ballet school, 6 Noble St Toronto (just north from Queen St, west of Dufferin)

Time: 11am - 8pm

FREE to attend! Child and costume friendly.

It's one of my favourite events of the season. Be sure to come by my table and say hello!

2012 FanExpo This Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun!

on August 22, 2012 - 10:14am

It's been a month since I last posted. Why? Because I've been creating an army of creatures for FanExpo which takes place this weekend starting tomorrow in Toronto.

I'll be in the Artist Alley section (you can see the map marked with my location in far left corner - not too far from the Tim Burton Frankenweenie exhibit) at table A45.

I have taken loads of pictures for all the new creations waiting for their big premiere but haven't had two seconds free to post them. August has been a runaway train.

To remedy this, I decided to snap a couple of quick pictures for all of you to take a sneak peek (more below) and see what the table will look like this year, and who is on offer.

I always do a trial run for the table before a big show. This year, there are so many critters I barely have room for them all: Plague Doctors, Little Minions, Dark Dwellers, Carnivorous Plants, mini pumpkins and more.

So come visit me sometime over the next four days!

Lemons into Haunted Lemonade

on June 18, 2012 - 9:43am

Scarefest

I have some news regarding Scarefest I want to share with you. I mentioned recently that I would be a vendor at Scarefest, a backyard BBQ Haunter Tradition for many years in Ontario. This year the organizer arranged a park space so even more haunters and vendors could attend. It was the next step in evolution for the beloved event which continues to grow.

The City of Vaughn (where the park is) contacted the organizer after they received an anonymous complaint regarding Scarefest:

"This individual who called in took the time to educate the Municipal Officials on our Scarefest web site, pointed out how many vendors we had attending and what they were being charged for a booth, inquired if we had all the proper permits for the park, and asked how all the residents in the neighborhood would feel about all the additional cars on the street." (You can read the full story on Facebook).

Just a reminder that I will be a vendor at Dia de Los Muertos Festival of The Arts on Saturday, October 23 (that's tomorrow!).

The craft fair portion is from 2pm-7pm with FREE admission. Come to my table for my last big show of the Halloween season!

Where:The El Mocambo, 464 Spadina Avenue, Toronto.

Stay later for a celebration of all things Indie/Rock/Rockabilly/Goth & Industrial.

Sunday Oct 10th, 2010 - Bazaar of the Bizarre

on October 8, 2010 - 11:09am

This Sunday from 11 to 7 is the 3rd celebration of The Bazaar of the Bizarre - a bona-fide Halloween marketplace! Kid friendly and with some prizes to win as well.

Where: 6 Noble Street (Queen st. West of Dufferin) Toronto, Ontario

Cost: FREE

It is a marketplace filled with amazing vendors: artists, designers, craft-folk, publishers and other independent makers of all things exotic, whimsical and macabre are assembled to attack your senses.

And of course, I'll have a table as well. I only have one more show after this one in October, so now is the time to come on out!

Need more incentive? Ok. The first person to come to my table and tell me they are dressing up as Super Grover for Halloween will get a small secret treat. Could be a cookie. Could be a sticker. Could be something from my table made of clay *wink wink, nudge nudge, head bob*. Could be a swizzle stick from Vegas. Who knows! Just walk up and tell me you're dressing up as Super Grover for Halloween. That's how easy it is.

POP With Brains Tonight at the Rivoli

on September 24, 2010 - 2:13am

I'm back after a week of radio silence! My gosh, what a terrible time to come down with a bug, and it left me hiding under covers in the dark. I've lost a week of work at the busiest time of the year, and I am once again behind in posts and emails.

But I'm back! Let's see if I can make up for lost time.

Most importantly, I need to talk about the show I am doing Friday Sept.24 - that's TONIGHT (writing this post at 2:21 am) - called POP WITH BRAINS. Takes place at The Rivoli 334 Queen St. W. Toronto, ON. It starts at 9 pm and costs $5 at the door with proceeds going to support CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health).

Five bands are playing: Northamorica, The Box Tiger, Fast Romantics, Rodrigo Wilde, and The Peace Leeches. Plus The FranDiscos spinning between sets.

Artists include moi, Poor Boy Clothing, Mikey Sin Clothing, Devon Sioui, Photostory by Lillith Z and Witch Water.

This is a 19+ show. Booze, music, art. Come and show some love!

Friday News from the Ghoul

on July 30, 2010 - 8:39am

A few bits of news this morning. Let's start with a reminder that I will be at the Parkdale Bazaar in Toronto Saturday, July 31 from 11am to 5pm. That's tomorrow, people. It takes place along Cowan Ave. at Queen in the Parkdale Town Square. Come and get your Peek-A-Boo eyeball plants, Plague Doctors, Little Minions (which is what I'm calling the new creatures with the fancy eyes and teeth), Brains Vs. Coffee books, Undead Head necklaces and maybe a few more surprises.

This could be my last event before the end of August, so if you've been meaning to come out and see me, this would be the time!

In other news, thanks to everyone who adopted 3 of the last 5 Underbiters. You've thrown the Underbiters the best retirement party I could hope for by adopting them and/or sending me messages telling me how much you've enjoyed the series. It means a lot to me.

There are only two left (in the whole wide world, forever and ever, amen): Oogie and Scurge. If you've been on the fence about buying one of them, let me give you some insider information that might help you decide to snatch them up today. If Scurge doesn't get adopted online by Saturday afternoon, I have an adopter interested in taking her home that evening (assuming no one else steps forward before then). So if you really like her, now is the time to get her.

As of Saturday night, Oogie will be available for purchase in the Ghoulish Goodies Shop where everything is priced in US dollars (so you save a buck or two if you buy her before then).

Besides that, August is upon us which means I will be slaving away, getting items ready for Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear Aug. 27 to 29 in Toronto. It's going to be an incredibly busy month. I will try to keep up on posts for the blog but if I'm absent or my posts are short, you'll know why.

That's about it for me. Have a great weekend everyone.

Christmas Craft Show - Sunday Dec, 20, 2009

on December 17, 2009 - 12:02pm

Zombie Nutcrackers

While stuck on the couch, I was able to get some painting done on these Zombie Nutcrackers that stand about 9 inches tall. I'm willing myself well (enough) to get out of the house this weekend. Not only do I have Christmas shopping to do, and a tree to put up, I'm a vendor at a show on Sunday, Dec 20th: Indie Christmas Market at Ransack the Universe. 11am - 7pm at 1207 Bloor W., east of Lansdowne on the south side of the street. It's taking place below Vintage69. It's a bit hard to spot. Look for a sandwich board with the flyers of an eye-patched Santa taped to it.

Back to the couch I go!
