Halloween Figures in the Lucky 13 Sale

on October 9, 2012 - 12:03am

Yesterday (our Thanksgiving Monday) while Canadians everywhere were chowing down on Turkey dinners, I was painting.

I was able to get a number of figures completed (and a few close to completion). As you may know, I'm having my Lucky 13 sale on Etsy up until October 13th, at which point I will put the shop in vacation mode until after my last show of the season.

A Tale of Two Kitties

on May 24, 2011 - 12:39pm

You may remember a few months ago I made The Feline Oracles for someone. Well, after a mistake on my part and then some weird Bermuda Triangle voodoo done by the postal system, those little cats went on a crazy extended trip across North America. They finally made their way back home (thank goodness), but it was decided they needed two guardians to keep them safe and make sure they never are lost again.

And here are their rougher-looking kitty counterparts, paws clasped in meditation, ready to do their part.

The Feline Oracles

on January 27, 2011 - 8:58am

I was recently presented with the photograph of one of the most regal looking cats I've ever seen from someone hoping I could make two figures in honour of her beloved furry creatures.

I've said it before: nature trumps art every time. This cat was beautiful. And I'm not a cat person, so for me to be going on about a kitty says a lot. Something in the eyes. Wise. Confident. So much so, I could imagine telling this cat my problems.

Quickly, I knew I couldn't do the animal justice if I attempted to do a reproduction. So instead, I went with inspiration.

Thus, the Feline Oracles were born. Heads a little larger than normal, with features exaggerated slightly, I wanted them to clearly resemble cats but have a subtle variation that set them apart.

Their white prayer scarves are a nod to the beautiful tuft of white fur on their chests.

I hope she likes them, and that I've done justice to the two cats - Star and Angel - to whom these figures are dedicated.

Little Minions: Kitty

on December 3, 2010 - 11:19am

She's the first cat I've ever sculpted. Ever. Isn't that kind of strange? You'd think by now I'd have done at least a handful of them, but no.

I simply refer to her as Kitty, or Miss Kitty if I'm being formal.

She stands 5.5 inches tall, and wears a black shawl.

I know the red eyes and superstition around her black coat might make some people fearful, but look at that little pink nose. Nothing bad can come from something with such a cute nose, right?

Besides, look at that "Who, me?" expression. Totally innocent. In fact, she's a little shocked and appalled that you would imply she's up to no good.

I've put Kitty on my Etsy site, just in case anyone wants to nab her as a last minute Christmas gift. Will be adding a couple more minions soon.
