Peekaboo Pods: Part 2

As you know, me and my black thumb have been working on 28 Peekaboo mini plants. Well, 27 (I spoke too soon when I said I had enough to finish them all in my last post).
Yesterday was spent securing the styrofoam bases and stems to the pots using newspaper strip mache.
Once that dried and all the items were stable, I applied toilet paper mache to the sections of wire that were wrapped around the stem. I didn't want them jostling position when I got to the more delicate task of creating the foliage.
A few hours later, everything was dry and secure.
I only got 3 plants started before I'd had enough for the day.
I never should've started using Sculpey. I've spoiled myself with the quick results, drying times and little mess. Of course, Sculpey cannot produce the texture I'll achieve with this technique and medium. And what I lose in time with mache I make up for in cost.
Going to throw myself at it again today, and see if I can make a dent in the remaining 24.

I can see this as being a test of wills - will I or won't I get all these little plants done! ;)
Doing a great job G ... hang in there.

Submitted by halloween spirit (not verified) on July 19, 2009 - 5:05am.These little guys dry faster than expected. Not sure what it is (I am using a different brand of glue), but if I work on them in the morning, they are dry later that day.
Each one takes between 20 and 30 minutes to do (including all those misc. time suckers like cleaning my hands, mixing glue, tearing up more toilet paper). I only made 4 more yesterday, then I got distracted, working on a large box for the display table.
It's interesting working on the plants this time around. Really, I've only made 2 plants in the past, and they were huge in comparison. Working on a smaller scale is a bit of a challenge, and I can't get a sense of how much foliage is too much/too thick, so I've started to try and vary them. It certainly guarantees each one is unique.
And a slight pain in the arse. :)
