I Gots Cooties
At the moment, I am typing on my laptop, surrounded by used tissues and packages of Halls candy. Have been hit with a good old fashioned cold, and hit hard, but I'm rebounding.
I can't say the same thing for my main computer. It, too, is under the weather. It got hit with a nasty virus a few days ago, which is especially frustrating because I am very careful with my downloads and suspect this little lovely came from a hacked WordPress website that hadn't been updated by the blogger. I was already on the site when I saw the post that warned it had been seriously hijacked. *sigh*
We've been able to find some of the files on the system that have been tampered with, but it's not all clean. Now, when I'm connected to the net - and only when I'm connected to the net - and try to do a scan, it logs me out and causes a Windows restart (DCOM server process service terminated yadda yadda).
SO I'm still around but not as much (hate the laptop). If you have any suggestions, let me know. Otherwise, I'll hopefully see you soon when I am in a cootie-free zone.

My computer just crashed a few weeks ago with a similar problem. On your laptop, go to malwarebytes.org and download the free version. Put it on a jump drive or disc and move it to the infected computer. Boot the computer in safe mode and you can run the software from there. That took care of things for me, hope it works for you too!

Submitted by Custom Zombie (not verified) on January 23, 2010 - 12:02pm.I'll give it a try. I've been playing with a couple different programs to track down the beasties. 2 have been successful at spotting things - different things (files and full out trojans) - but so far nothing has done a clean sweep.
Ironically, I was too foggy to figure out the settings of the new firewall so that I could connect this morning for a test run, and decided to leave it until my congested head clears a bit.
I may end up just doing a full restore to make sure the little bastards get nuked and it's all a clean slate. We'll see how frustrated I get ;)

Submitted by Ghoul Friday on January 23, 2010 - 12:53pm.I got the virumont virus last year, and although I bought and tried 4 of the major antivirus/spyware removal progs it was always there lurking and replicating. I also got my website hacked, and although I have removed and replaced the entire site, it will take at least 3 months for google to give me a clean bill of health, rendering my site useless! Hand the little b******s that what I say!

Get well soon!

Submitted by Zombie Bob (not verified) on January 25, 2010 - 7:34pm.I got mine infected two weeks ago. The virus, as far as I know, completely corrupted the indexes of the file system of my hard drive. I took the opportunity to switch to Windows 7 which was able to restore my complete hard drive... Hourray!
Hope you will get the virus, malware or watever it is out of your computer soon... It is always a pain in the... :-)
