I was recently sent a link for a site that acts as a handbook for Goths. At first I didn't know what to make of it, but after a little exploring (it can be a little overwhelming to navigate the site through the labyrinth of links and google ads) I found myself curious.
Gothic Portal is described as "A deep and varied portal dedicated to the dark life of the gothic subculture, fashion, music, dating, tourism, culture and poems". Gothic dating, you say? I must see more.
There are Goth pick-up lines with classics such as:
You've stolen my heart away. Luckily, I've got another three or four in the freezer.
Are you here alone or am I going to have to kill someone to win your affection?
You remind me of my dead ex-girlfriend.
(and my favourite)
Did you know that you have enough tissue on the inside of your lungs to wallpaper the entire room?
Ok. Now I am officially entertained (if not a little creeped out). I decide to venture deeper into this portal.
I'm not sure what sources they used, but there's a nice little blurb about Dead Gardens: flowers used in burial sites and the mystical purpose or symbolism of each one.
I think I liked parts of the site because it isn't written by someone born in North America (so be forgiving of the few grammatical oddities you'll encounter); it's like reading about a familiar subject with a slightly different slant to it.
Ultimately, I was won over by a sister site done by the same person. More on that another time.
Even if you aren't Goth, but are planning a party that requires dark poetry or writings, this might be a good place to start (and look to their link section as well).
