Eerie Edibles

It's been too long since I posted a recipe. This one comes from www.familycorner.com.
Normally I wouldn't be interested in a recipe that stars Cheez Whiz, and I would recommend you create a cheese dip with actual cheese, but something tells me you might not be able to get the same glowing green appearance.
I was also given a suggestion of doing the same thing with white chocolate.
Ingredients
- 8 ounce Jar Cheez Whiz
- 3 or 4 drops Green food colouring
- 3 dozen pretzel sticks
1. Melt cheeze whiz in the microwave according to jar directions. Allow the cheese to cool slightly in the jar.
2. Carefully stir in food colouring using just enough to turn the cheese a pale snot green.
3. To form boogers: Dip and twist the tip of each pretzel stick into the cheese, lift out, wait twenty seconds, then dip again. When cheese lumps reach a boogerish size, set pretzels on wax paper to cool.
Update:
Mr. Macabre made a how-to video (and added sausages to the recipe...ewwwwww lol).

King Unicorn sent me a link of interest for my Brains vs. Coffee debate. It lead me to this image of canned pork brains in milk gravy.
One serving has 1170% of your daily cholesterol.
Once the nausea subsided, I decided to do some research. Armour Star foods, which brings you such tummy-turning snacks as Treet Luncheon Loaf, is part of the Pinnacle Foods Group family. Their website reports that in 1948, Armour made the first deodorant soap Dial (at the time they'd been making soap as a by-product of the meatpacking process. Ew). I guess it makes sense since most of their food products make me feel unclean.
Haven't posted noxious nosh in a while so here's a Halloween recipe idea from howstuffworks.com.
Ingredients:
6 ounces assorted frozen clam strips, breaded fish pieces or breaded shrimp
3 to 5 drops green food colouring
1 cup tartar sauce
6 (6-inch) bamboo skewers
6 dill pickles
2 pepperoni pieces, cut into 3 strips each
6 to 8 pimiento-stuffed green olives
Mustard

While the recipe has made the rounds online, I thought I would post it anyway. I originally saw this on yumsugar.com. In honour of V-day, I am resurrecting it from Internet oblivion.
I should note the recipe is originally from Hey There, Cupcake! by Clare Crespo. Here's the recipe:
Ingredients and Tools
20 glass marbles or small balls of tinfoil
1 recipe batter for White Cupcakes (store bought or see below for the homemade recipe)
2 to 3 cups strawberry jelly or smooth strawberry jam
1 recipe Vanilla Butter Cream Frosting (store bought or see below for the homemade recipe)
Red and blue food colouring
Pastry bag and medium round tip (optional)

I've come across a couple of interesting ideas for serving watermelon at your next bone-bash. The first, a watermelon brain, comes from two sources and seems pretty straight forward.
You can try following scoochmaroo's detailed instructions (her melon brain is pictured right), or Disney's version.
Feeling a bit more brave and artistic? I got a good chuckle when I saw this idea of having the dead rising out of the grave (or melon, as the case may be).

I've tried to find the original source for this idea. I always feel a bit unclean when I post an image or idea without giving credit. Unfortunately, Kim's Halloween Recipes page where I found this image simply label it 'online idea' without a reference. If anyone knows who came up with this little beauty, I'd love to know.

My first experiment with a brain mould: a classic panna cotta dessert.
Ingredients for the brain:
- 1 cup milk
- 5 teaspoons unflavored gelatin *
- 4 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup sugar
- pinch salt
- 2 Tablespoons vanilla
Ingredients for the sauce:
- 2 tablespoons of jam
- Approx. 1 cup pomegranate or blueberry juice

Here are some pizza ideas I used at this year's party. It only takes a few extra minutes to make your meals match the decor.
For one pizza, I had a tomato sauce, onions, mozzarella cheese, sliced turkey pepperettes and red peppers. I used the red peppers to spell out 'HELP' across the pizza...a cry from an employee in the kitchen.
The next was a giant sea monkey pizza (shrimp) with fresh basil, some mozzarella, and an artichoke and asiago cheese spread as the sauce.

Use this idea to serve your guests some authentic finger foods this Halloween.
Check your local dollar store - they often sell popcorn containers in their party section. If you can't find them there, head to the local party supply store.
Fill your containers with snacks and a few extra bits. Be sure to use food colouring for the blood effect, and you might want to give the body parts a rinse before placing them in the containers.

In my fair city there is a talented baker who runs the Wicked Little Cake Company, which started up in January of this year. Jaime, the Chief Wicked, uses fondant and cake batter like a sculptor uses clay. She can create almost anything you can dream up, including this bleeding heart cake.
Most customers have been family and friends, but with some more exposure, I imagine business should pick up for this independently run one woman baking machine.
I asked Jaime what she digs most about her craft:
I really like the jaw-dropping 'that's a cake?!' aspect of making sculpted cakes and trying to figure out how to make cake do things I never thought possible. Plus I've always liked playing with food - bonus if I get to play with other people's food!

I picked this recipe up from Freddie and Cindy's Halloween website. For some reason, the link to their homepage wasn't working so I couldn't verify whether or not they allow other people to use their information. So Freddie and Cindy, if you're out there, I hope you don't mind that I have posted your idea.
- Make Rice Krispies treats as directed on the box.
- When cool enough to handle, roll into balls the size of a...well, an eyeball.
- Melt some white chocolate and coat the balls.
- Place an M&M in the center of the eyeball and press lightly.
- Place eyeball on wax paper to set up. Putting the tray in the fridge helps speed up the process.
- Store in a container.
Want to get fancy with the treats? There are oodles of recipe ideas on the official Rice Krispies website.
