On Saturday night, the Toronto After Dark Film Festival is having a fundraiser ...sorry, fiendraiser for the annual Toronto Zombie Walk that takes place in the streets of Toronto each October. I could describe the event to you in my own words, but why go through all the hassle? Here is the description from the Facebook events page (with a couple of links for the bands thrown in from moi):

"On August 16, the dead will rise and descend on the Smiling Buddha Bar for the first annual Toronto Zombie Walk Fiendraiser.

Prepare for an evening of ear-splitting monster bands, ghoulish performances, artist meat and greet and spooktacular giveaways. All the money raised from the Fiendraiser will go towards the operating costs of this year's Toronto Zombie Walk.

Only seven people attended the first Zombie Walk, held in Toronto in 2003, but the ghoulish plague has since spread across the globe. Zombie Walks are now held throughout Canada, the United States, England and Australia. Last year's fifth annual Toronto Zombie Walk drew a record-breaking crowd of over 1,000 living dead!

The Zombie Walk is now huger than ever. Organizers have been forced to obtain permits to stage this year's walk, scheduled for October 19.

The Toronto Zombie Walk Fiendraiser will be held at The Smiling Buddha Bar (961 College St. W) on the full moon of August 16. Doors open at 9 p.m. Bands include Horror Biz (members of the Vapids who cover Misfits tunes and throw in eerie originals), R.I.P. (a hard-hitting psychobilly three-piece), the Screamagers (upbeat rock 'n' roll with B-Movie appeal) and The Voodoo Idols (lo-fi horror dead-linquents).

The event will be hosted by the enchanting Anastasia, who will share a few sideshow feats and treats that will awe and amaze.

Meet Zombie Portraits artist Rob Sacchetto, who has been awing the zombie world with his amazing ability to catch your likeness in death.

Come in zombie gear for discounted tickets, as well as a chance to win our zombie costume contest and a ticket to the Gala screening and after party for the opening night of the Toronto After Dark Film Festival! The Fiendraiser will also be holding a raffle with many phantabulous prize packs that include makeup kits, DVDs and many more deadly delicacies.

You don’t want to miss the flesh-eating event of the summer. Come and partake in the Toronto Zombie Walk’s first annual Fiendraiser and help us continue to raise the dead every October."
